Francis OLIN (1928-1997) Composition, 1994 Painted wood assemblage. Signed and dated on the back. 20 x 20 cm Provenance : Galerie Claude Dorval, Paris. Born in Nimy (Belgium) in 1928, Francis Olin began painting by reinterpreting the aesthetic codes of Malevitch and the Russian Constructivists. At the end of the '50s, his compositions evolved towards more sober chromatic relief motifs, in which black and white dominate, confronted by the interplay of light and shadow. After the 60s, they are generally made up of geometric modules, placed on flat surfaces and arranged according to the principles of repetition and variation.
