Salted paper print from paper negative, hinged. 24 x 34 cm Petiot-Groffier, whose laboratory was discovered intact in 2007, was well known in Chalon for his art of taking photographs. In 1853, having learned that it had been decided to demolish the great nave of the Chalon hospital, the fledgling Société d'Histoire et d'Archéologie asked Petiot-Groffier to take general views of the building.
