Pair of huali jiaoyi folding armchairs, China, late 19th - early 20th century The rounded backs are horseshoe-shaped, with an openwork central band carved with a rectangular panel showing a kilin standing on plants among clouds, and a medallion adorned with a coiled dragon shi. The seat is braided with a rope, and the wooden upright on the front is carved with two shi dragons and foliage. The legs are fitted with a footrest reinforced by an openwork brass plate.
