Pair of polychrome enamel vases on copper, China, Canton, 19th century Each vase is enameled on a blue ground with polychrome enamel highlights on silver leaf and gold-leaf decoration in the low-cut technique. The body is flanked by two reserves painted in Canton polychrome enamels, depicting women and court figures. These reserves are surrounded by a frieze of low-cut enamels depicting vine shoots. The sides of each vase are adorned with two Buddhist lions in gilded copper. On the sides of the vases alternate friezes of Buddhist emblems, flowers, halberd butterflies and a lingzhi frieze around the neck. Height: 30 cm Lids missing. Damage, wear and restoration.
