Flower-shaped celadon nephrite brush-washer, China, 18th - 19th century The four-lobed bowl is deeply carved, with rounded inward-curving edges imitating the petals of a flower. The bottom is carved in light relief with a domed, squared disk imitating the pistil. The underside is adorned with a cruciform motif whose inward-curving edges are engraved with leaf-like veins. It rests on a four-lobed wooden base in the shape of the bowl, decorated with an openwork frieze carved in relief in the shape of a lingzhi.
