Fine edition illustrated with 18 compositions by Henri MATISSE (1869-1954), including 12 full-page black lithographs and 6 linocuts (2 chapter headings and 2 culs-de-lampe in black, as well as 2 initials in red). The lithographs are divided into two series of 6, one depicting portraits of women, the other of men. Although included in the pagination, they were printed separately by Mourlot frères on Île-de-France paper for one series and on Lana pur chiffon for the other. Edition of 370 copies signed by the author and artist at the justification. This is one of 315 on Arches paper vellum. A very well preserved copy, despite the browned spine of the folder and some soiling to the slipcase.
