Uncommon first edition of this theoretical work on etching and lithography, composed by the Russian painter, draftsman, sculptor and writer Vasilij Nikolaevič Masûtin (1884-1955), one of the representatives of Symbolism, who resided in Berlin from 1920 until his death. With this essay, he established himself as one of the most highly regarded art theorists of his time. The illustrations feature numerous full-page and in-text black reproductions by some of the most famous engravers and lithographers of his time, including Dürer, Rembrandt, Callot and Meryon. The cover is illustrated with a fine composition by the author. A very well preserved copy, a rare condition for this work.
