Jansenist burgundy morocco, ribbed spine, gilt and mosaic fillets, roulette and motifs inside, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, case (Ch. Septier). Beautiful and interesting edition illustrated with 134 black and colored compositions by Jean-Louis FORAIN. According to Carteret (IV, p. 123), this edition brings together drawings "that have appeared in various publications". The title and cover are dated 1920, but there is a printed note at the end: "The printing of this work, begun in 1914 and interrupted by the war, was resumed in 1919 and completed in 1921...". Edition of 250 copies. This is one of the first 50 numbered on Japon paper, with a suite of all the illustrations on chine. A very fine copy bound by Charles Septier.
