René BODIER (1884-1939)
L'Avion Farman, circa 1910
Silk fanfold painted with two airplanes in flight over a city, perhaps Paris or Reims. One bears the name "Farman", referring to the French aviator Henry Farman (1874-1958), a pioneer of aviation. It appears to be the Voisin aeroplane he took the controls of for his first official flight in 1908 at Issy-Les-Moulineaux on the outskirts of Paris. The biplane was christened "Henri Farman n°1". The second plane could be an early monoplane called "Antoinette" by Léon Levasseur.
Unsigned.
