About his journal L'Apéritif. He complains of being without news: "Are you angry that I told you to rework your nice poetry, or are you preparing another one? [...] I expect from you a graceful idyll full of perfumes and love. [...] If you can get me a few new subscribers or collaborators, thank you a thousand times over"... - "You haven't written to me for two months - your degree no doubt absorbs you horribly, but I hope you won't be so mute this vacation. You've sent me a collaborator: François Carny"... - "You're lucky to be in Paris, where you can have a good laugh - whereas I, alas, am barely able to "esbaudir joyeusement" in the words of our Master Rabelais"... - You welcomed one of the first L'Apéritif with pleasure, and collaborated in its writing in a most gracious manner. [...] The poetry competitions I've organized are going well. I've already received about fifty for this month"... - "Thank you for all the lovely verses. Whenever you write, don't forget me. Just send us mostly short stuff, not exceeding about fifty lines, then sonnets that are hardly more than about fifteen.
