Jean COCTEAU. Typescript with autograph dispatch and autograph date, Lettre aux Américains, 1949; 48 pages in-4. Typescript of Lettre aux Américains, written during Cocteau's return trip from New York, where he had presented L'Aigle à deux têtes. The typescript is dedicated to Aymée Grasset, the wife of his publisher Bernard Grasset: "à la chère femme de Bernard qui a réinventé cette lettre en la lecture et en l'écoutant la lecture lui. With all my heart Jean Cocteau". At the end, Cocteau inscribed the date in his own handwriting: "Paris-New York (Air France) January 12 and 13, 1949". Some passages have been marked with lines or framed, perhaps for the publication of excerpts in magazines; a few marginal notes concerning arrangements or corrections may be in the hand of Bernard Grasset, who published the Lettre aux Américains in the same year, 1949.
