Jean COCTEAU. L.A.S. "Jean", Roquebrune September 1929, to Max Jacob; 1 page in-4.

Beautiful letter to Max Jacob.
"Max chéri, I am happy about your friendship with Kit [painter Christopher Wood]. He is pure. He's a child and nothing bad ever visits him. He loves few people and doesn't care about the rest. How brave you are! I was saying to Jeanjean that at the point of friendship where we are, there is a sort of immaterial body blend - that, for example, you inhabit me and that I never stay a second without you - even if I don't think of you at all - I mean that something of you, always present in me, shares my slightest joys or sorrows. But I don't suffer the details of your convalescence and I suddenly reproach myself for contenting myself with the too vague news recorded by the heart. Nothing from Pierre [Reverdy] or Maurice [Sachs]. I don't think they see each other anymore. In his last letter, Maurice doesn't mention rue Cambon [Gabrielle Chanel]. I'm sad about this mess, because I owe so much to our friend. [...] I love you and I kiss you"...
