CHINA. Élie MARCUSE (1898-1979) journalist. Autograph manuscript signed, Trente-deux mois de Chine (1948-1951); 81 pages small in-4.
6 L.A.S. from Marcuse (February 2 to March 9, 1953) are enclosed.

Reportage in China during Mao Zedong's seizure of power.
The manuscript, in blue ink on the front of the sheets, in very legible handwriting, shows a few erasures and corrections.
These articles, sent to the periodical Nice-Matin by journalist Élie Marcuse, covering the victory of the Maoist revolutionaries over the Kuomintang nationalists between 1948 and 1951, have not been collected in a volume.
A witness to the events, Marcuse left Marseille with his wife on April 28, 1948 and lived in China until mid-January 1951. He recounts the capture of Tien-Tsin, Nanking and Shanghai, all in a style more attentive to anecdotes and details than to real political and social forces.
Attached are 6 L.A.S. from Marcuse (February 2 to March 9, 1953), addressed to Henri Monnier and accompanying the dispatch of the successive articles that make up the manuscript, as well as the photos by Roger Piérard that are to illustrate it (missing).
