Émile GALLÉ. L.A.S., [late 1895], to Robert de Montesquiou; 5 pages in-8 (tab). Beautiful poetic letter of moving gratitude to his friend and benefactor, author of the article "Cette petite clef-ci", evoking a visit to Gallé's studio in the form of a retelling of the tale of Bluebeard, published in La Plume on November 1, 1895. He expresses his emotion: "no gesture, no act, no sign, even secret, of your angelic brotherhood went unnoticed, but deeply felt, savored, presented as an inner offering to whom we receive the daily bread and all the supererogatory honey... ; my soul's attitudes of blessing have been its intimate pause, and laid upon your goodness, during my journey and my blissful return, to the land of the pure swans, the white and the black, the fairy domain, yours by right of plumage and candor and ebony too, by your right of unrivaled conquest"... Etc. He then recalls a New Year's Eve at the Hugo home, and the music played by brothers Eugène and Théo Ysaÿe: "Beethoven and Franck visited me, and Bach too. [...] Thus, until close vesprèe I galléed, regaled, these beautiful artists with the faces of young gods. They heard how to make a vase: mingled tones, hypnotized, craftsmen and maestri of vibrating string and singing crystal, picturesque mingling, lit only by the flames of eyes and furnaces"... He dreams of bringing Ysaÿe back: "a great quartet in a glassmaker's hall, on some embalmed night. And it will be history!"... He talks again of the "Delafosse vase"... Etc.
