TEUTSCH (Julius) - SAINT-PREUX (A de).
A Friday at Madame Teutsch's. Revue rapide des événements intérieurs et extérieurs de l'année 1901.
Paris : Cerf, 1902. - In-8, blond calf, chased and painted decoration on first cover, smooth spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved (period binding).

Extremely rare first edition, of which very few copies are known, of this play "performed for the first time in Paris, on December 21, 1901, in the annual sales room of the Œuvre du Souvenir, 40, rue des Mathurins, on a theater built and erected by the carpentry workshop of the Pupilles de l'Œuvre du Souvenir".

Julius Teutsch (1867-1936) was a Romanian historian and ethnologist. He played the lead role in the play; the second was played by co-author A. de Saint-Preux.

Copy on japon, obviously intended for Julius Teutsch, enriched with this long dispatch from A. de Saint-Preux: "You have asked me for a few lines // My dear friend; I willingly // agree, for I am anxious to // set the record straight: by // calling me as your collaborator // you have given me a very great pleasure // and also a great honor, for from // the very first moment I have not // doubted the success of this review, but // I am anxious to add that this success // is entirely due to you, who // have been the constant inspiration // and skillful director // A. de S. Preux."

A fine copy in contemporary binding, decorated on the front cover with a chased and painted country landscape.

Headcap torn off, wear rubbed. Decoration on first cover partly faded.
