[Paris: les éditeurs, 1814]. - Oblong, in-8, brown half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head (Gruel). One of Duplessis-Bertaux's finest productions. This copy includes a medallion portrait of the artist, an engraved title and 97 of the 98 plates depicting workers, soldiers, trades, itinerant merchants, famous actors and actresses, urban spectacles, military scenes, beggars, etc. The proofs were printed on wove paper. There are more than 70 engravings in the avant la lettre state, including the title engraving, and one of them is in two states, before and with the letter. Without text leaves. A fine copy bound by Gruel for the notary and bibliophile Alfred Piat (1826-1896). Some scattered foxing. Provenance: Alfred Piat, with bookplate.
