"This work is part of a 1997 series of fabrics printed by Bouchara on the motif of the painting Palette painted in 1975, which marks the beginning of the so-called "surface tramée" period, during which the artist used graph paper to define his geometric shapes on the surface of the canvas. For the 1997 series, Guy de Rougemont used acrylics to paint motifs on the Palette screen that were characteristic of the 90s, namely large, single-colour flat tints; sometimes transparent, as in this composition, which he mixed with other, still single-colour shapes that became more sinuous, already heralding the serpentine period of the 2000s to come. In this way, the artist extends his research into the screened surface, succeeding in making it evolve towards less formal rigor thanks to the introduction of curves."
