Endre ROZSDA [Franco-Hungarian] (1913-1999) Cluster of Galaxies, 1958 Oil on isorel. Signed lower right. (Small scratch). 46 x 38 cm Provenance : Galerie Furstenberg, Paris (label on back). The work is registered under n°ER-P-400 in the Endre Rozsda inventory. We would like to thank Mr. José Mangani for the information he provided. "After the exhibition André Breton and his first wife organized for him in 1957, Rozsda met Raymond Queneau. He embraced the ideas of OULIPO (while remaining outside the group), adopting the "constraint" of hiding figuration. From then on, figurative images would appear subliminally in his paintings, as Rozsda rubbed the pictorial matter of his abstract compositions with petals, dead leaves or lace. This painting was made just as the transition was taking place. It retains the chromatics of late 1957, but the figuration has disappeared in favor of highly unusual and humorous invented forms. The fact that I chose a clustered composition, inspired by Tintoretto's Sky in Venice, makes it unique." Patrice Conti, Chantal Hourcade, José Mangani, Co-Presidents of the Friends of Endre Rozsda
