LUCRECE.
Della natura delle cose libri sei tradotti dal latino in italian da Alessandro Marchetti.
Amsterdamo [Paris]: a Spese dell' Editore, 1754. - 2 volumes in-8, 223 x 140: frontispiece, title, (2 ff.), 243 pp. 3 plates; frontispiece, title, pp. (245)-543, 3 plates. Green morocco, rich gilt lace on the boards, spine decorated with nerfs, gilt roulette inside, gilt edges (Louis Douceur).

Cohen, 665-666.
Beautiful and famous edition printed on Hollande paper, illustrated in the first edition with 2 identical titles, 2 frontispieces by Eisen, 6 hors-texte by Cochin and Le Lorrain, 7 headpieces by Cochin and Eisen and 5 culs-de-lampe by Cochin, Eisen and Vassé, engraved by Aliamet, Lemire, Sornique, Baquoy, Chenu, Flipart, Gallimard, Tardieu and Louise Le Doulceur.
A very nice copy in a contemporary lace binding attributed to Louis Douceur. Other copies of this title are known to be bound by him, with different decorations but with the use of similar irons. He had the quality of "bookbinder for the service of the deposit of the foreign affairs". He was certainly not a gilder and, according to Thoinan (p. 261), probably employed artists of different merits, hence the uneven quality of the design.
Spine faded. Some scattered foxing.
