George-Daniel de Monfreid (1856-1929) Le Parler ancien (unpublished variant). (Pl. for V. Segalen, Les Immémoriaux, ed. by G. Crès, 1921). Wood engraving after Gauguin. 90 x 70. Very nice proof on japon pelure, numbered in pencil "4" in the lower right corner. All margins. This apparently unpublished subject is a variant of our previous issue, which was used to illustrate the chapter heading, p. 135, of Georges Crès' illustrated reprint of V. Segalen's work, originally published in 1907 by Mercure de France. Another proof appears under the n° 10 in the catalog of the bookshop P. Saunier, Dans les feuilles de bibassier, spring 2022.
