Pierre MAC ORLAN (1882-1970). Autograph manuscript signed, De Montmartre au Quartier Latin, [1927]; 4 pages in-4.

Mac Orlan reports on the book by his friend Francis CARCO, published in 1927 by Albin Michel, which takes him back to his twenties and brings up ghosts: "the awful sour perfume of their misery invades the half-light and mixes with the secret images of memory. It appears, this evening, around me of the livid faces of teenagers and men too freed. They died some and the others of violent death, ten years before the war. [Other shadows walk their pale elegance of artists stripped to the bone: Modigliani, Guillaume Apollinaire [...] I am left with my old friend André Salmon and Carco our youngest ". Carco's book is a "moving chronicle of a time of great moral and physical misery that daily touched the agony. [...] A man like Carco mixed by the heart with the forces of the street could alone write this book of a whole generation that the destiny made wander in a social atmosphere similar to the one where lived Villon and his friends of the day and the night "... Etc.
