Georges CLEMENCEAU (1841-1929). L.A.S. "Cl.", July 9 [1924]; 2 pages in-4.

Clemenceau is on vacation. He sends his correspondent "a good letter without head or tail", to continue their conversation, in which the latter will discover "the quality that I mainly lack: epistolary fervor. As they say in Parisian slang, I don't write to you, I talk to you"... He waits for "the doctor's certificate to know if I am dead or alive. [...] My poor dying friend is Ignatius the deputy, suffering from I don't know what infectious phenomena that don't allow anyone to approach him. I was all the more anxious to go to his door. He loved me, and I loved him back"... He is happy to note that they wrote to each other at the same time to say the same thing, "to note that there is more close to the Ocean in the Vosges than in Paris. A good point to both of them. Very good chocolate, but I'm not allowed to eat it. To avoid a literary end, I don't finish. So let's go on, if you want"... [The deputy of the Seine Édouard Ignace died on July 23, 1924].
