Round snuffbox in gilt and niello. Veliky Ustyug, 1786.
The lid encloses a medal in memory of the peace concluded with the Porte in 1774. The bottom in a circular reserve amatie bears the initials "ЯП" in niello silver, presumably the name of the recipient. The belt, the lap of the medal and the lap enclosing the reserve at the bottom are engraved with nielloed scales.
Hallmarks: double-headed eagle, control 1786 and assayer "А-Т" (Alexei Ivanov Torlov) and silversmith "I Ж" (Ivan Petrov Zhilin).
Height: 2.2 cm; diameter: 8.6 cm; gross weight: 242 g

An almost identical snuffbox (slightly larger), is in the Hermitage Museum (inv. no. ЭРО-2421) but dated 1787. The initials on the bottom are not shown.
This snuffbox was presented at the Exhibition "It's Potemkin himself!" On the occasion of the 280th birthday of His Grace Prince G.A. Potemkin-Tauride, in St. Petersburg from December 8, 2019 to March 29, 2020.
