Titled and dated upper right. 15,8 x 22,7 cm The river Soudokleï is undoubtedly a distortion of the name of the river Sougokleï from the district of Elisavetgrad of the province of Kherson (now Sougoklia in Ukraine). The name Sodoklei was found only in the work of Prince Ivan Mikhailovich Dolgorukov (1764-1823): "Славны бубны за горами или Путешествие мое кое-куда 1810 года." (Glorious Drums beyond the Mountains or My Travels to Some Places in 1810) edited in Moscow in 1870 [p. 204] for a place name on the road from Odessa to Elisavetgrad. The name of this river has attested variants: Sugoklia, Sugailia, Sugokleya, Sugakleya, Sugoklei, Savaklei, Sukhokleya.
