Names of cities, provinces, lakes and marshes can be distinguished... This is a representation of a section of the Grand Canal - 京杭大運河, connecting Beijing to Hangzhou. Shandong province section-山東省, connecting the cities of Jining-済寧州 to Dezhou-徳州. The various prefectures, stopover towns, villages, rivers, etc. are indicated as well as the distances separating the various fortifications. These numerous details are either written directly on the silk or, for the distances between each camp, inscribed on small pieces of gold paper glued to the support.
