Pair of sentoku dishes with chased and takazogan inlaid decoration of various metals, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
One is decorated with a boar hunting scene. In the foreground, we see Nitta Shiro Tadatsune riding on the beast ready to kill it with his dagger while other samurai are knocked down by the boar. On the left, Yoritomo observes the scene under a pine tree, surrounded by hunters on horseback shooting rabbits with their bows or stunting a fox. The other plate represents a mountainous village scene with houses, torii, bridge, temple and pagoda, dotted with characters, men and women, protecting themselves from a strong wind. In the foreground, a wader in a pond seems to be watching the scene. Each of the dishes has, below, an engraved signature: 大日本京都廣瀬弥兵卫製 - Dai Nihon Kyoto Hirose Yahee sei.
