Antoine Bégon de La Rouzière studied watercolor with Louis-Étienne Watelet (1780-1866). When the artist painted this view, he lived at 7, rue du Regard, Hôtel de Beaune. The first tenant of this hotel was the viscountess of Beaune in 1720; she gave it her name. After her, the hotel passed to the Prince of Robeck, the great of Spain. From 1825 to 1826, the writer François-René de Chateaubriand lived there, as a plaque on the outside wall testifies. From 1830 to 1841, Claude-Victor Perrin (1764-1841), marshal of the Empire, known as marshal Victor, duke of Bellune, lived there in his turn. Afterwards, the hotel belonged to his son Victor-François Perrin, 2nd Duke of Bellune, then to the Marquise d'Hautefeuille.
