Provenance:
- Caroline Garnon (1838-1900), née Barbot, daughter of the artist.
- Henriette Le Châtelier (1865-1934), née Garnon, daughter of the artist.
- Georges Le Châtelier (1857-1935), husband of the previous one.
- Caroline Bour (1883-1947), born Leroux, niece of the previous one.
- It has remained in her descendants until today.

The second trip to Italy was an opportunity for Barbot to rediscover with a new eye the places he had visited as an architect. The artist's notebooks allow us to know very precisely how the trip unfolded. We know that in anticipation of this trip, he entered the studio of his future travel companion, Jules Coignet (1798-1860), a landscape painter already well known. Not sharing either his ideas or his way of life, Barbot sometimes seems to suffer from their proximity, but remains faithful to him throughout the year and a half spent together.
