Paul VALÉRY (1871-1945). Autograph poem, Summer. Final; 1 oblong page in-8.
Beautiful working manuscript of the three final stanzas added to the poem Été, published in 1896 in the review Le Centaure, and collected in 1920 in Album de vers anciens. In 1942, in the collection of his Poésies, Valéry will add three quatrains as a conclusion, here in a very worked draft, with erasures and corrections, and alternative variants:
"On the slope of sand where the wave abandons itself
Where the weeping power breaks all its diamonds
Rests in the oblivion of the wonders of the world
Deaf virgin to the clamors of eternal elements "....
We join 4 L.A.S. by André Chaumeix (2, 1954-1955), Anatole France (to "Stefano", 187.), and Ernest Legouvé.
