Sacha GUITRY (1885-1957). Autograph manuscript, Knowing exactly; 4 and a quarter pages in-fol. in purple ink. "This man wanted to know exactly what his friends thought of him. Before reaching this point, he had begun to think, then to read the philosophers; his mind had become clouded and "he realized that his work betrayed no trace of genius. He simply concluded that genius was invisible. He resolved to gather a group of friends to read the work he had just finished. "His success was considerable. They congratulated him, they covered him with flowers, they told him that it was his most beautiful piece, and that it was quite, quite good. He pretended to go out and hid, expecting to hear "horrible things, he knew he would be accused of plagiarism, he knew he would be pitied, he knew he would be ridiculed"... But his friends "went on, they said again that it was quite, quite good [...] And this man understood that he was not the only one to have a good piece. And this man understood that he had an established situation, that he simply had talent, that no one thought of challenging him, and he understood that the words you hear are quite different when you listen to them. The manuscript has many erasures and corrections.
