Élie BERTHET (1815-1891) novelist. 41 L.A.S., 1835-1888, mostly to his friend Eugène Falconnet, public prosecutor in Pau; ca. 100 pages, mostly in-8.
In 1835 he tells of an evening at "Housset's" [Arsène Houssaye's] where he met Théophile Gautier and Burat de Gurgy. After a rather long silence, he resumed in 1860, asking Falconnet to intervene in his favor when he asked for the Legion of Honor supported by Houssaye. He sends him his works, they exchange verses and news of the family. He regularly asks for his friend's opinion and advice on matters concerning him or his relatives, as well as on people in whose fate he is interested. He quotes in particular the case of Gustave Chadeuil, founder of the newspaper Le XIXème siècle, unjustly condemned.
