SHAPUR (Fredun). BROOKS (Kathleen). Spot and the paint. Blackie and the wool. By the pool. By Kathleen Brooks. Illustrated by Fredun Shapur. Ernest Benn Limited. London. 1971. 3 volumes in-8 (20.6 x 15.4 cm). 26, (2) pp: laminated covers, first few boards lithographed in color with geometric designs and stylized characters. All three volumes enclosed in a tri-fold clear plastic sleeve with a white flap marked "Creative Playthings Princeton New Jersey 08540, Published in England", First Readers 3+. Rare complete set, enclosed in its original sleeve, of the mythical works of designer Fredun Shapur (1929-2019). Born in Johannesburg, he studied at the Royal College of Art in London and created his design agency in 1959. With the birth of his daughter Mira in 1960, the designer also turned to the world of toys and education, creating works and illustrations that are still extremely innovative today. Published for the first time in 1966, this second printing, and first edition destined for the American market, includes these three titles chosen by Fredun Shapur, at the time artistic director (1968-1974) of "Creative Playthings". The designer placed them in a tri-fold sleeve bearing the logo he had created for the firm. Imagining these three works as his puzzles with geometric and colored forms assembled, he draws fourteen plates by volume with the text of the pedagogue Kathleen Brooks limited to a few lines, in large typography, on the white page opposite. Text of the greatest simplicity wonderfully associated with geometric flat tints of the artist. Set, in mint condition, most desirable.
