[HALL (Gladys)].
[Original model]. My alphabet.
[Dean's Rag Book Company limited in London for Hachette & Cie in Paris]. 1913. (16) sheets (22 x 18 cm approx.) of strong paper, applied to a linen cloth, illustrated with gouache, watercolor and India ink.

The sixteen original plates of Dean's printed cloth album, My Alphabet, including the covers: the work of illustrator Evelyn Gladys Hall (1883-1973).
Trained at the Hastings School of Art, she began working at Dean in 1906 and quickly became the backbone of the company's creative department. In 1907, she created Dean's first "Teddy Bear".
Extreme finesse of the line and the setting in colors, the artist realizes in the ink the calligraphy of the French text. Wet stamps on the back: Inspected & Approved, 28 Jun. 1913. The album will be published in December.
Attached to the mock-up is a copy of the book in mint condition including the rare small paper leaflet, very innovative for the time, indicating that the colors, strongly fixed, are safe for children, who can put it in their mouths and that these books can be washed without the color being altered.
The models of the cloth books of the publisher Dean are extremely rare.
