GAULLE (Madame de). The mirror of children. An alphabetical album for young people. By Madame de Gaulle. Second edition. Vve H. Casterman. Tournai. 1871. P. M. Laroche, Libraire-Gérant, rue Bonaparte, 66, Paris. L.-A. Kittler, Commissionaire, Querstrasse, 34, Leipzig. In-12 oblong (14 x 23,5 cm). 85 pp, (1) f of table, (24) lithographed plates : publisher's binding of green chagrined cloth, double framed, gilt title on the first board, gilt iron representing a young girl at a fountain on the second, spine covered with modern paper. Precious primer conceived by the grandmother of General de Gaulle, Joséphine-Marie de Gaulle (1806-1886). Author of many edifying works for the youth. Did this primer serve as an apprenticeship for the young Charles de Gaulle? The mention of a second edition is certainly fictitious, considering the rarity of the work. Twenty-four fine lithographs on a cream background in a frame, signed E. L. They all show children's scenes; from Aumône, in the frontispiece, to Zouaves, no W, I and J on the same plate (Images et Jeux). Extremely rare work. No copy referenced in libraries. Spine renewed, foxing at the foot of three leaves.
