N° 1, s.d. [July 1885]-n° 4, s.d. Paris, Manager: T. Arné. Texts by Jean Popolo [Stephen Durande]. The covers of n° 1 and 2 are illustrated by A. Chicot [Eugène Lamouche]. In the text, vignettes by Eugène Lamouche and A. Bongrain. 4 numbers in 4 issues in 1 vol. in-16 bound (covers preserved). Rare.
This short-lived little review attacks the government about the Tonkin expedition, criticizes the relationship between Church and State and asks for the denunciation of the concordat, and ridicules the July 14 celebration and festivities in Paris and in the provinces. In a note from the editorial staff, published in n° 1 and written by Stephen Durante, former editor of Le Mousquetaire, it is specified: " [...] We have given sufficient guarantees to the ideas we represent; by taking this format, Le Gamin de Paris wanted to fight the insanities published in pamphlets of the same kind, at the same time as he wanted to make his friendly voice heard by this people of whom he is himself, whom he loves and in whom he hopes, in spite of all and in spite of everything."
