Important miniature Jain shrine in polychrome wood, India, late 19th century Small wooden temple resting on eight campaniform feet, consisting of three cylindrical levels of decreasing diameter from the bottom to the top, decorated with human figures in high relief and crowned with friezes of fleurons. The last level houses a small architectural aedicule with four fluted columns supporting poly-lobed arches topped with a bulbous dome. On the first level, the human figures, men and women with various postures and accessories are isolated in niches. On the intermediate level, the figures are kneeling and arranged four by four under arcatures. On the upper level, the male figures isolated in individual niches all carry a chauri flycatcher placed on their right shoulder. The base is underlined by a frieze of turned wood painted in red. Some metal trimmings and rivets on the whole. H. approx. 133 cm ; diam. approx. 75 cm Polychromy jumps, stains, accidents and small missing parts. An element of turned wood of the base detached.
