Large polychrome wooden wedding chest, Morocco, Rif, 19th - 20th century Rectangular in shape, the base sloping forward, opening on the top with a hinged lid closed by fittings, two small compartments inside. Painted decoration on the whole in two phases, one more recent than the other. On the front also animated by sculpted elements, two panels of poly-lobed arches placed on columns and housing an endless knot, the base highlighted by a frieze of poly-lobed arches decorated with a fan-shaped leaf, all on a floral background. On the top of the lid, two lines of six multi-lobed medallions decorated with a floral rosette with a starred heart on a lined floral background. The small sides and the interior painted later with polylobed or broken horseshoe arches and floral motifs in bright colors.
