HOME - ROCHEGROSSE (Georges). Odyssey. Translation by Leconte de Lisle. Paris : Librairie des amateurs, A. Ferroud, F. Ferroud, 1931. - In-4, paperback, filled cover. Edition of 501 copies offering the text of Homer's "Odyssey" in Leconte de Lisle's translation. It has been superbly illustrated by Georges ROCHEGROSSE (1859-1938) and includes three color compositions on the spine and the two covers, twenty-five original etchings out of text engraved by Eugène Decisy, twenty-four headbands, twenty-four headpieces and twenty-four ornamented letters, engraved on wood in colors by Paul Baudier, Charles Clément, Gaspérini and Pierre Gusman. This copy, not numbered, is apparently the only one, printed on Hollande paper. Watermarked "Van Gelder Zonen", it contains three states of the hors-texte and a suite of eight color plates on the same paper. The justification indicates that this unique copy should contain all the original drawings, which is unfortunately not the case here. A very well preserved copy despite a tear without missing parts repaired on the back.
