[NAPOLEON]. Code Napoléon. First and only official edition. Paris : imprimerie impériale, 1808. [Followed by: Table alphabétique et raisonnée des matières contenues dans le Code Napoléon. Paris : imprimerie impériale, 1807. [And of] : BIGOR DE PREAMENEU (Félix-Julien-Jean). Exposé du Code Napoléon, présenté au corps législatif... Dans la Séance du 22 Août 1807. Paris : A. Galland, 1807. - 3 works in one volume in-8, basane racinée, cold filets on the boards, smooth spine decorated, red edges (binding of the time). Interesting collection gathering the Code Napoléon and two brochures concerning it published at the time. This "Code Napoléon" was promulgated on March 21, 1804 and published for the first time that same year under the title of "Code civil des français". "Napoleon succeeded where all governments before him had failed: the adoption of a well-written, easily interpreted Code of Civil Laws, the triumph of written law over custom. He was the driving force behind this great work, conceived and prepared by a cohort of leading jurists, to whom he provided the means to work, not without sometimes intervening to settle certain questions. The enterprise was eminently political: more than a conception of the law, it contained a vision of the society. It was not enough to compile, but it was built around great ideological options. Launched on August 12, 1800, the project took nearly four years to complete. [This code was the first of a long series of laws affecting civil law (rights and relations between citizens), commercial law (to organize commerce) and penal law (punishment of offences)" (Fondation Napoléon, site napoleon.org). The "Table alphabétique et raisonnée" and the work of Bigor de Préameneu, bound afterwards, are in their original edition. Damage to the head cover, dull corners, small stains on the boards, and worm work on the second board. Scattered foxing and some light wetness.
