EYMERY (Alexis). Dictionary of weather vanes or our contemporaries painted by themselves... Paris, Alexis Eymery, Pellicier, Delaunay, 1815. - In-8, blond half calf with parchment corners, smooth spine decorated (period binding). Second edition published the same year as the first, revised, corrected and enlarged. It is a satirical dictionary "in which are reported the speeches, proclamations, extracts of works written under the governments which took place in France since twenty-five years; and the places, favors and titles which obtained in the various circumstances the statesmen, people of letters, generals, artists, senators, songwriters, bishops, prefects, journalists, ministers, etc." (title). This collective work was orchestrated by Alexis Eymeri with the contribution in particular of Pierre-Joseph Charrin, Tastu, René Périn and César de Proisy d'Eppe. The aim was to denounce the opportunists of the period from the French Revolution to the Hundred Days. There are more than 700 names and institutions, among them Barère de Vieuzac, Benjamin Constant, Bernadotte, Berthier, Chénier, Choiseul-Praslin, Macdonald, etc. The edition is decorated with a beautiful allegorical frontispiece in colors. Worm work on the headpieces and hinges.
