[Paris] : the author, 1733. - In-folio, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, spine decorated, spotted edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this astonishing military history dedicated to king Louis XV, due to Pierre Lemau de La Jaisse (1677-1745), former officer of the duchess of Orleans, member of the order of Saint-Lazare. It is composed of 21 large double or folding plates, including a title and a large dedication plate. The plates 6 and 7 as well as 8 and 9 are attached, forming two large folding tables. These plates were intended to be joined together to form a large map or more precisely a large table. The first series contains the texts, mostly printed and glued in engraved frames, including city views, genealogies, coats of arms, etc. A second series constitutes the plates for the border. They include descriptions of several dozen fortified cities, each accompanied by an engraved plan of the city in question and coats of arms. There are also four large vignettes representing the four cardinal points. The last plate is entitled: "Supplément relatif aux explications de la carte générale de la monarchie françoise, contenant l'histoire du militaire ancien et moderne. Concerning the Mutations, or Changes arrived in all the military Corps of the Kingdom; since February 15, 1730 until February 15, 1732 anniversary of the 22nd year completed of Louis XV." Small splits at hinges, headpieces faded, missing last box, corners dulled. Small tears without missing at some folds of the boards. Light staining on the edge of the first plate.
