[CASTLE OF LA MUETTE]
Jules de MARTHOLD (1847-1927). Autograph poem signed "J.M.", 1782; 1 page small in-4.
Sonnet on the festivities celebrating the birth of the Dauphin, and the stay of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette at the Muette.
[Louis-Joseph de France was born on October 22, 1781 (he died on June 4, 1789). From January 21, 1782, for three days, great celebrations and ceremonies were organized by the City of Paris to celebrate this birth; on this occasion, the royal couple resided at the Château de la Muette].
"At the castle of La Muette a Dauphin was born.
To see their subjects again, lilies in a white satin,
The queen in Notre-Dame arrives in the morning [...]
Prodigious impulse or quivered the love
Where overflowed the hearts, one lives in this beautiful day,
All the nation, the people and the scarlet
Waving and singing the olive branch.
Moreau with his pencil illustrated this date:
Paris celebrating its King on the twenty-first of January."
