[This sculpture is emblematic of Jacqueline Lerat's ambition in the fields of painting and sculpture. She quickly understood in 1938, with her father Jean Bouvet and her teacher Henri Malvaux, when she began her artistic studies, that drawing or academic sculpture were too much of a constraint for her. Her thirst for freedom could not be satisfied. The example of Picasso, Kandinsky and Klee opened new paths for her. The practice of painting has always been a regret that she will compensate with the treatment of her sculptures. The stoneware allows her to have a high level of requirement thanks to the materials and colors used.
In this work, the three symbols of the square, the round and the cross are very strongly expressed.
They are printed on a sculpture where the plant nature imposes itself in the forms]. F.L.
