Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Family of acrobats with a macaque (Pl. des Saltimbanques). Autumn-Winter 1905. Drypoint on zinc. 177 x 235. Bloch 11; Baer 13. A very fine and fresh proof on strong ivory vellum watermarked "van gelder zonen" from the edition of 250 proofs made for Vollard in 1913. All margins untrimmed [330 x 508]. Rare. "This print was made by Fort, for Vollard, and largely destroyed by the publisher who did not put it on the market: the oxidation runs, not very visible before steeling, had become very annoying. There are, however, proofs on japanese [...] and on Van Gelder vellum: there are about fifty of them left." (Bernhardt Geiser, revision Brigitte Baer, Picasso peintregraveur tome I, Catalogue raisonné de l'oeuvre gravé et lithographié et des monotypes 1899-1931, Bern, Kornfeld, 1996, p. 38.)
