BRETON (André).
Poèmes.
Paris : Gallimard, [1948]. - In-8, 209 x 142 : 271 pp. with printed cover. Paperback, red percaline slipcase from the Laurenchet workshops.

First collective edition.

AUTHOR'S COPY, one of the first twenty-three on Hollande laid paper, this one being one of the three offprints, justified "A".

It has been ENRICHED WITH A VERY BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL MONOGRAMED DRAWING BY THE PAINTER AND PHOTOGRAPHER PIERRE MOLINIER (1900-1976).

This drawing executed in graphite on a white sheet from a notebook, 206 x 135 mm, is titled Hôtel des étincelles; it refers to the eponymous poem by Breton, printed on page 83 in the book.

This drawing was not mentioned in the Breton sale catalog (lot 190), having obviously gone unnoticed. However, it was in the copy, slipped between pages 82 and 83 which have been browned by the leaf. We can thus affirm that this drawing was indeed made by Molinier for Breton himself, making this copy in the first edition quite precious.

A very well preserved copy, largely uncut.
Provenance: André Breton (cat. April 2003, Book I, n° 190).
