ARAGON (Louis). Traité de style. Paris : Nouvelle Revue Française, 1928. - In-4, : 236 pp, (2 ff. last blank), printed cover. Paperback. First edition. This polemical essay was written in 1927, the same year that Aragon joined the French Communist Party. The author offers a concrete illustration of the surrealist attitude towards the real world and violently attacks those who think that automatic writing is the beginning and the end of any surrealist movement, those who use Freud and Einstein without really knowing them, to give a modern look to their novels, and those who want to separate surrealist literature from the protest against the unacceptable condition of man in contemporary society, referring to the worldwide campaign to save the two anarchists of Italian origin Sacco and Vanzetti. One of the first 109 copies in the in-4 format on Lafuma-Navarre laid paper, this one being one of the 100 reserved for the Bibliophiles of the Nouvelle Revue Française. It is complete with the flyleaf bearing this strange warning: "The author renounces to join to this book the list of typographical errors it contains (Seillières, Rangry, à cours, les participes! etc.). He only regrets that this renders inappreciable to the reader the spelling and French mistakes, deliberately made in the hope of obtaining from this reader the pleasant howls that legitimize his existence."
