Deluxe edition, the first illustrated, with more than sixty compositions by Paul-Albert LAURENS (1870-1934) engraved with etching by Léon Boisson, including two vignettes on the cover, a portrait in the frontispiece and seven full-page compositions. Edition at 301 copies. ONE OF THE TWENTY FIRST ON IMPERIAL JAPANESE MANUFACTURING PAPER, containing three states of the cover vignettes and those in the text, and four states of the full-page illustrations. Only the frontispiece portrait is in one state. A very fine copy in Affolter's lined binding, enriched with an etched portrait of the character of Thaïs by Laurens. Case worn in places. Spine very slightly faded.
