[CURIOSA] - BÉRANGER (Pierre-Jean de). Complete works of P.-J. de Béranger. Volume V. Supplement. Paris : Chez tous les marchands de nouveautés, 1834. - In-8, 220 x 138 : 179 pp. Half plum morocco with corners, gilt filets, spine ribbed and decorated, not trimmed (H. Blanchetière). This volume forms the supplement to the first four volumes of the edition of Béranger's complete works published in 1834; it contains the author's erotic songs. Contrary to the others, this one was only sold under the cover; it was seized and condemned to destruction by a decision of the court of assizes of the Seine on October 24, 1834. It is a more complete reprint of the large in-18 supplement of 1829, containing forty-eight songs, twenty of which were unpublished. Copy from the library of Gérard Nordmann, abundantly enriched. It includes the following items: - frontispiece by Félicien ROPS for the edition of Les Gaités de Béranger published by Poulet-Malassis in 1864, in three states (black, blue and red) on China paper, - very rare suite of nine free engravings heightened in colors, size in-16, made around 1830 and unsigned, mounted at the head . They illustrate the songs : La Gaudriole, Ma grand' mère, Le Vieux célibataire, Jeannette, La Vivandière, Les Clefs du paradis, Le Bon ménage, Les Révérends pères and La Marquise de Prétintaille. - Two very rare pornographic lithographs in color, circa 1830, 128 x 95 mm, cut to the edge of the frame and mounted. They are respectively captioned: Une maison à partie, passage d'Artois, No. 10, (in the store), and Melle Guillaume, rue de Seine St Germain, No. 27. - Four free color lithographs by Henry Monnier, from two different series, depicting the songs: La Marquise de Pretintaille, Recommençons, Le tour de ronde and Les Picards. - A free watercolor lithograph, in the taste of Henry Monnier, uncaptioned, pasted. Erroneously presented as an original drawing in the Nordmann catalog, - two free etchings in intaglio for Le Roi d'Yvetot and La Bacchante, - eight free etchings after Tony Johannot, in two states, on vellum and on chine glued before the letter . Spine faded. Traces of glue around the two pornographic lithographs. Minor foxing. Provenance: Gérard Nordmann, with ex-libris (cat. II, December 2006, n° 79, erroneously indicates that the copy is on wove paper). - Private collection of M. de C. (sale 6 October 2020, n° 252). - Tony Fekete, with erotic bookplate representing a female sex, signed Wahorn (sale 21 May 2021, n° 320).
