BERGERET (Gaston) - HENRIOT.
The Events of Pontax.
Paris : Librairie Conquet-Carteret, 1899. - In-4, 286 x 202 : (2 ff.), 150 pp., (1 f.), illustrated cover. Maroon morocco, boards decorated with a bronze morocco ribbon pattern, spine decorated with a tan morocco ribbon, quintuple gilt fillet inside, linings and endpapers of olive green ottoman cloth, double endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, case (A. Cuzin).

First edition at 200 copies of this satire on French politicians and administration at the end of the 19th century.

This is a quite remarkable edition where the text is in imitation of the handwriting and accompanied by several hundred watercolors by HENRIOT, reproduced in colors in the text.

ONE OF TWENTY-FIVE HEAD COPY ON JAPAN, enriched with a superb original watercolor signed by Henriot on the false title, as well as a second copy of the cover preserved in one piece.

Very beautiful mosaic binding by Adolphe Cuzin.
A very well preserved copy. The color of the ribbon on the back must have changed, it would be logical that it would have been the same color as those on the boards.
Provenance : Antoine Vautier, with ex-libris. - Ex-libris bearing the Latin motto " Nec tu semper eris ".
