Paul Kauffmann (1849-1940) was an Alsatian illustrator: he did his schooling in Colmar. In the mid-1860s, he started his career as a draftsman in an industrial drawing workshop in Mulhouse and soon afterwards began his career as a press illustrator. He was a fervent supporter of the return of Alsace to France and contributed greatly to the memory of Alsatian customs, his favorite theme.
